This fascinating two-day, two-night ride consists of a tour of the Salineras salt mines, the small village of Maras, the archeological site of Moray, the Pumahuanca Valley, and the community of Lares. We will discover these sites by following paths which connect us to the history of these lands from pre-Incan times.
The ride begins at our Ranch, located in the small community of Pichingoto in the district of Maras, where we will review basic riding instructions. We will then ride up a steep path to the Salineras salt mines, where we will learn how the salt is produced and observe how the salt is collected by hand.
Afterwards we will continue riding up to the quaint, colonial village of Maras and stop to have our picnic lunch surrounded by the snow-capped mountains of the Andes. We will then ride the horses through the valley to the archeological site of Moray, where we will stop to visit its impressive architecture and native crops.
We will then continue the ride into the valley to reach the ranch in Pichingoto, where we will have spectacular views of the mountains. At the ranch, you will enjoy a delicious dinner and a night in one of our beautiful cabins.
Our second day starts at the foot of the Pumahuanca valley, one of the most attractive ravines in the Sacred Valley which leads up to the snow-capped mountains of the Andes. This area is always lush and it provides an excellent eco-system for birds and native vegetation. At the highest point of the trail, we will eat a picnic lunch surrounded by glacier lakes. We will then hike down-hill to the community of Lares, where we will enjoy hot springs and spend the night. The next morning, after breakfast, our private transportation will take you back to your accommodation in Cusco or the Sacred Valley.
